Ghost-Faced Cream Pies recipe

These ghost-faced pies are not just cute and creative, but they also pack a punch in flavor. The rich vanilla filling contrasts perfectly with the fluffy, light whipped cream ghost faces, while the flaky pie crust provides a satisfying crunch. Whether you’re serving them at a Halloween party or enjoying them as a sweet family treat, these cream pies are sure to impress both in taste and appearance.

Texture and Flavor

The vanilla cream filling has a smooth, custardy texture, and it's rich without being overly heavy. When you take a bite, it melts in your mouth and pairs perfectly with the buttery, crisp pie crust. The whipped cream made with a cream charger is light, fluffy, and soft—just like a cloud. It adds a sweetness that balances the cream pie’s richness, and the "ghost face" designs make them visually fun.

Crafting Your Ghost-Faced Cream Pies

Start by making the pie crust. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt, then cut in the cold butter with a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add cold water, a tablespoon at a time, until the dough just comes together. Be careful not to overwork the dough. Once it's formed, wrap it in plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 30 minutes. This will help the crust stay flaky when baked.

Once chilled, roll out the dough on a floured surface, then press it into a pie dish. You can trim the edges to make them neat or leave them rustic. Prick the bottom of the crust with a fork and bake it at 375°F (190°C) for about 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown. Let it cool completely before filling.

While the crust cools, it’s time to make the vanilla cream filling. In a saucepan, heat the milk and sugar over medium heat, stirring to dissolve the sugar. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks and cornstarch until smooth. Gradually add a bit of the warm milk mixture to the egg mixture to temper it, then slowly pour the egg mixture back into the saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens to a custard-like consistency. Remove it from the heat, and stir in the vanilla extract and butter until smooth. Let the filling cool before pouring it into the cooled pie crust.

Now comes the fun part—whipping the cream. Pour the heavy cream into a whipped cream dispenser, add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, and connect it with a cream charger. Shake the whipped cream dispenser a few times according to the instructions to create light, fluffy whipped cream. Once the cream is ready, use a spoon or piping bag to pipe the n2o whipped cream in ghost-like shapes on top of the cream filling. You can make little swirls or peaks to resemble ghost faces.

For the finishing touch, use chocolate chips or black icing to add eyes and a mouth to your ghosts, giving them their spooky personalities. Place the pie in the fridge to chill for about 30 minutes before serving so the whipped cream firms up and the flavors have time to meld.
