With the Fourth of July just around the corner, I tried making a red and blue layered cocktail today — the kind topped with whipped cream. After letting my friends taste it, they all said it was delicious and full of flavor. So I thought I’d share the recipe with you!
What You’ll Need:
Ingredients:
Red Layer: Cranberry juice or grenadine
Blue Layer: Blue Curaçao
White Foam: Lightly sweetened cream or coconut milk (for dairy-free option)
Vodka (optional, for added kick)
Ice cubes
Tools:
Tall glass
Spoon (for layering)
Cream dispenser (whipped cream siphon)
(maybe a pressure regulator)
How to Make the Red Blue Cocktail?
Start with the Red Layer
Pour about 2 oz of cranberry juice or grenadine into the bottom of your glass. Add ice cubes carefully to avoid splashing.
Create the Blue Layer
Hold a spoon upside down over the red layer and slowly pour the Blue Curaçao over it. The spoon helps gently guide the liquid so the colors stay separated. You’ll need about 2 oz.
Tip: Blue Curaçao is lighter than grenadine, so it naturally floats above the red layer when poured slowly.
Prepare the Cream Foam
In your cream dispenser, add about 1/2 cup of chilled cream and a touch of vanilla syrup or sugar if desired. Charge it with N2O cream charger, shake well, and you're ready to go!
If you have 9g nitrous oxide cartridges at home, you can simply attach them to your dispenser. But if you’re using a larger tank, like a 1.1L or 3.3L nitrous oxide tank, you’ll need a gas tank regulator to safely transfer the gas into your cream whipper.
Top with White Foam
Dispense a generous dollop of whipped cream or coconut foam over the drink. This adds a beautiful white “top” that makes the drink look like a patriotic masterpiece — red, white, and blue!
Serve it with festive straws or garnish with a cherry and a tiny American flag for extra flair. This cocktail is great for BBQs, fireworks watching, or as a welcome drink for your Independence Day guests.
This red and blue cocktail is more than just a drink — it's a celebration in a glass. With the help of a cream charger, you’ll add a smooth, creamy finish that balances the bold flavors below. Whether you're hosting a backyard BBQ or just want to toast America in style, this drink is sure to wow your friends.
FAQs
Can I make this non-alcoholic?
Absolutely! Just skip the vodka and use a blue sports drink or blue raspberry syrup in place of Blue Curacao.
Do I need a cream charger for this?
Yes—if you want that light, stable foam topping. A cream charger helps create professional-quality whipped cream instantly.
How do I layer drinks perfectly?
Use the spoon method and pour slowly. Knowing your liquids’ sugar content or density also helps.
